Classic Mary Berry at Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle News -

Leeds Castle’s Festival of Flowers made a vibrant appearance in this week’s episode of ‘Classic Mary Berry’, aired on BBC1 Monday 19th March.

The episode featured Mary Berry’s visit to the Castle last September during the annual Festival of Flowers event, which saw over 14,000 people visit the Castle to see spectacular floral arrangements. Throughout the episode, the doyenne of baking helped Floral Designer Simon Lycett and his team transform the Castle’s Henry VIII Banqueting Hall into the most incredible setting for a ‘fantastical and fulsome feast’.

For the arrangement, Simon used an abundance of seasonal British foliage and flowers combined with exotic blooms; mixing a palette of soft blush, deep burnt umber and gold hues. Finishing off the display with sparkling crystals, a myriad of flickering candles, sweet meats and cakes fit for a King or Queen, the dinner table was a huge success with Mary Berry, who also helped Simon create some floral treats.

Admiring the event’s displays, Mary said, “I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It’s absolutely breath-taking. The attention to detail here deserves all the appreciation it gets.”

The Festival of Flowers in 2017 followed the theme of the Enchanted Castle, with the Castle’s decorated pathways leading to rooms full of colourful floral designs inspired by fairy tales. The event takes place each September at Leeds Castle and in 2018 will run from the 15th to the 20th. Visitors will be able to see incredible floral displays, take part in specialist talks, demonstrations and pre-bookable floral workshops.
